- Your files stay on your device. Transcription, subtitles and file translation run in your browser.
- No account is needed for the free tools, and we don't sell your data.
- We keep very little: your email if you join the waitlist, and short-lived counters that protect the service from abuse.
- The site shows ads from Google AdSense, which uses cookies. You can opt out of personalized ads.
Who we are
Spokly (spokly.net) is run by an independent developer based in Egypt. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Spokly. If you have a question about your data, email support@spokly.net.
What runs on your device
These tools work inside your browser. The audio, video, text and documents you use with them are never uploaded to Spokly:
- Audio & video to text. A speech model runs in your browser. The first time, your browser downloads the model from Hugging Face and keeps it for next time.
- Subtitle maker. SRT and VTT files are made on your device from the transcript's timestamps.
- Translate a file. Files are read in your browser, and translation uses Chrome's built-in translator, which runs on your device. Chrome downloads each language pack once.
- Reading documents. DOCX and PDF files are opened in your browser with open-source libraries loaded from cdnjs and jsDelivr.
When your browser downloads a model or a library, that server receives a normal web request (such as your IP address and browser type). It never receives your files.
What doesn't run on your device
- Voice typing uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. In Chrome and Edge, the browser may send your voice to its maker's speech service (Google or Microsoft) to turn it into text, under their privacy policies. Spokly never receives your voice or the text.
- The link importer (below) and the waitlist (below) use our server.
- Pages and ads load from our host and from Google, as described below.
The link importer
When you paste a link to an audio or video file (for example, Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive), your browser downloads it directly when it can. When it can't, our server fetches the file from that link and passes it straight to your browser as it downloads. The file is never stored on our server. To keep the service fair, we count requests per IP address for one hour and the total amount downloaded per day. These counters don't include the file or its link, and they expire on their own.
The waitlist
If you click "Notify me", we save your email address and the time you joined. We use it only to tell you when AI tools and paid plans launch. We don't share it or use it for anything else. Every email we send will include a link to unsubscribe, and you can ask us to remove your email at any time by writing to support@spokly.net. To stop spam, we also count sign-ups per IP address for one hour.
When you contact us
When you write to us by email or through the contact page, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and your message. We use them only to reply and help you. We keep the conversation only as long as we need it to support you.
Cookies and local storage
Spokly itself doesn't set cookies. It uses your browser's local storage to remember things on your device, such as your theme, language and speed choices, and your recent outputs (History). This data stays in your browser and isn't sent to us. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
Google sets cookies for ads, as explained in the next section.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
We show ads to keep the free tools free. Ads are served by Google AdSense.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- Where the law requires it (for example, in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland), you're asked for consent before personalized ads are shown.

Analytics and server logs
We don't use analytics or tracking tools. Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, the page requested and the time) for a short time for security and to keep the site running.
Services we use
- Vercel, to host the site and run our server functions.
- Upstash, a database for the waitlist and the abuse-protection counters.
- Google, for AdSense ads and Google Fonts (fonts load from Google's servers).
- Hugging Face, jsDelivr and cdnjs, which serve the speech model and open-source libraries to your browser.
These providers may process data in the United States and other countries.
AI tools, accounts and payments
AI tools, Google sign-in and paid plans are coming soon. This section will apply when they launch.
- Google Sign-In. When you sign in, Google tells us your name, email address, profile picture and a Google account ID. We use the ID to keep your credits and plan.
- AI writing and cloud transcription. The text or audio you send to an AI tool goes to our server and to our AI providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) to produce the result. We don't store it after the result is delivered.
- Payments. Lemon Squeezy, our payment partner, handles checkout as the merchant of record. We never see your full card details. We keep your plan, its status and your credit balance.
How long we keep data
- Your files and recordings: never stored, because they stay on your device or pass through without being saved.
- Waitlist emails: until we announce the launch, or until you ask us to remove yours.
- Abuse-protection counters: one hour for per-IP counters, two days for the daily total.
- Emails you send us: as long as we need them to help you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Email support@spokly.net and we'll answer within 30 days.
Children
Spokly isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
The site uses HTTPS, and we keep the data we hold to a minimum. No service on the internet is perfectly secure, but we work to protect what we keep.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change is important, we'll say so on the site.
